About Us
The Riverland Special School provides
education programs suited to the needs of
Reception to Year 12+
students, identified with an intellectual disability and eligible
for a special school placement. Enrolments come from across the
Riverland district.
The curriculum provides students with
opportunities to develop their abilities through
a range of
learning areas including the arts, design and technology, health and
physical activity, science, society and environment, work
experience, daily living skills and
study at TAFE.
These, and cross-curricular activities including Duke of
Edinburgh Awards, Special
Guides and Special Olympics, provide a
pathway to a suitable post-school option
for each student. Our
curriculum delivery is enhanced by collaboration with outreach
services from organisations providing support for students with
special physical or
sensory needs, autism spectrum disorders or
Down Syndrome.
The school works closely with families, local Disability Employment Services and state government agencies such as Disability SA, to ensure that each student accesses post school options including employment opportunities and day option programs for those unable to work.
